Provincial Nominee Program

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is an immigration pathway that allows Canadian provinces and territories to select skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and international graduates who can contribute to the local economy. Each province has its own PNP streams, tailored to their labor market needs and economic priorities.

The PNP is designed for individuals who:
âś” Have skills and work experience in demand in a particular province.
âś” Want to live and work permanently in a specific province or territory.
âś” Meet the eligibility criteria of the provincial nomination stream.

There are two ways to apply for a PNP:

  1. Direct PNP Application – Apply directly to the province’s immigration office.
  2. Express Entry-Aligned PNP – Apply through the Express Entry system, earning an extra 600 CRS points, almost guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

With faster processing, multiple nomination pathways, and high success rates, PNP is an excellent choice for skilled workers and business investors seeking Canadian permanent residence.

Increases CRS Score for Express Entry Candidates
A provincial nomination adds 600 points to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), almost ensuring an ITA for permanent residency.
Pathway for Lower CRS Score Applicants
Candidates with a low CRS score in Express Entry can still qualify through PNP streams based on job offers, work experience, or employer sponsorship.
Faster and More Targeted Immigration
Many PNP applications are processed within 6-9 months, making it a quicker route for permanent residency compared to other immigration programs.
Multiple Streams for Different Profiles
PNP is available for skilled workers, business investors, international graduates, and semi-skilled workers, making it a flexible pathway.

PNP Application Process

Choose the Right Provincial Program

Each province has unique nomination programs based on local labor market needs. Choose the best one that matches your profile.

Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) or Direct Application

Some provinces require applicants to submit an EOI through the Express Entry system.
Others allow direct applications without Express Entry.

Receive a Provincial Nomination

If selected, the province issues a nomination certificate, which adds 600 CRS points if linked with Express Entry.

Apply for Permanent Residency

With the nomination, you can submit your PR application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for processing.

Medical, Security, and Background Checks

All applicants must complete medical exams and background verification before final approval.

Get Your PR Visa

Once approved, applicants receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and can move to Canada.
How long does PNP processing take?
Processing times vary by province but typically range from 6 to 9 months after nomination.
Can I apply for PNP without Express Entry?
Yes, many provinces offer direct application streams where Express Entry is not required.
What is the advantage of Express Entry-aligned PNP?
It adds 600 CRS points, significantly increasing your chance of receiving an ITA for permanent residency.
Do I need a job offer to qualify for PNP?
Not always. Some provinces, like Ontario and Saskatchewan, have PNP streams that do not require a job offer.
